Throughout his long career, he has performed with bands such as 08001 and achieved remarkable milestones, including recording a version of the song Stand by Me that has amassed millions of online views, as well as participating in the international project Playing for Change.
With the Clarence Bekker Band, founded in 2016, the Surinamese musician has brought together some of Barcelona’s finest performers, toured extensively around the world, and released the acclaimed album Changes (Jazz Activist, 2020), confirming his status as one of the leading soul, funk, and R&B artists of our time.
There are artists who need nothing more than a few well-played chords, a distinctive voice, and a story to tell in order to touch our hearts within seconds. True soul singers require no embellishments to communicate emotion, and Clarence Milton Bekker undoubtedly belongs among this select group. Born in Suriname and holding Dutch nationality, his career has taken him along countless paths.
